Commissioning furniture

Hi
I want a very arrow console table for my new house but I am having touble finding one the right size so I thought I would look into commissioning a local carpenter to make one for me.
I am not looking for anything too swish just simple and basic. As long as it fits in the gap I have and is no more than 27 cm deep.
Does anyone have any ideas how to go about this, I have googled it and end up with high end designers charging over £700:eek:
