Hi again
I sold an item on ebay last Sunday, the buyer phoned Monday and asked if she could collect on Thursday at 6pm, I said yeah sure no problems, then Thursday at 6.35 I get this email

sorry i cant come tonight i have got to take my car into the garage to be fixed i can try get over on sunday if thats any good to you. thanks
I replied saying ok but I really need it gone and can you guarantee collecting Sunday as I really need it out of the way as it was originally being stored at my mums but we brought it to ours ready for her collection so its now in the middle of my kitchen and I haven't had a reply.
How long do you wait for buyers to collect and do you think I should chase her up some more?
Thanks

If they dont collect Sunday, open an unpaid item dispute. Relist the item and get your fees back. I have had one buyer wanting an item posted out to them before their cheque has cleared, which I refused to do, especially because I stated paypal as the only method of payment offered to them. You are giving them a second chance arent you, so no excuses really. You could always have told them if they dont collect Sunday then you wil be having to relist the item as you want it gone!
Another point, why did they not make you aware they couldnt collect before the set time? You have been reasonable giving a second chance, now its upto them to protect their respectability0 -
Thanks, I thought it was a bit cheeky too, not emailing me till 35 minutes after she was supposed to collect, surely you would know if you needed to take your car into the garage sooner and then saying ill try and get over Sunday, you know dont mind me, whenever your ready, I have no life.
When she phoned to arrange collection she didn't seem pleased because she didnt know where we were. I emailed her about 15 minutes ago, lets just see if she replies.0 -
Well if you had a lot of interest in the item and you thought the price was perhaps not as much as you would have liked, its perhaps a good thing to relist. I suppose you hope they collect Sunday because you have the item cluttering up your kitchen, but there isnt a right lot you can do. Often I get delays from buyers who want to pay by cheque instead of paypal and theydont bother to ask this before auction ends. This isnt the same though, and you just have to give them the benefit of the doubt. Im assuming the item is quite big, and therefore not cheap to post? If it wasnt too big, you could always offer postage. Are they paying cash on collection? What is their feedback like?0

On items for collection only, I would advise you put something in the listing along the lines of 'collection within Xdays from auction end otherwise item relisted and neg left'.0

She has feedback of 144 at 100% positive. It is a rowing machine so posting isnt really an option as it weighs a ton. I listed it as cash on collection, I usually do put collection within 7 days but in this instance I forgot (typical isnt it)0

I cant say I know of any car garages open at 6.30 in the evening.0

How does a seller leave negative these days?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
I was thinking about that point aswell! The car cant have broken down, as she was driving it to the garage at some point. I suppose this excuse is a very common one for not been able to collect! I guess you do have to give her the benefit of the doubt though, and if she doesnt collect Sunday she cant expect anything else other than you relist the item. Yes, you will have to wait for the auction to run through, but after 2 chances, I wouldnt expect them to collect at all after then.I cant say I know of any car garages open at 6.30 in the evening.0 -
Good point! I havnt tried recently, but I do remember some talk of this been stopped. Buyers can do no wrong it seems! What I reckon Ebay should do (and it would be very profitable for them!) is when you get your fees back for an unpaid item, the winning bidder should be chased by ebay for them! This would stop people bidding who dont intend to buy.Chippy_Minton wrote: »How does a seller leave negative these days?0
