Are there any known conflicts and/or incompatabilities between Avast (free) 4.8 Home Edition, Comodo 3 (free) firewall and Vista Home Premium?
All three are installed on a laptop and the Avast will not update, either automatically or manually, receiving message "cannot connect to server". Tried disabling the firewall but to no avail, still will not connect and update.
Considered Comodo 2 instead but that doesn't appear to be Vista compatible?
Accessing Avast's website and manually downloading the update from there worked.
Any suggestions would be appreciated, e.g. use Zonealarm, AVG, or a combination of one/both of those with/without Comodo and/or Avast.

vista's built in firewall is not bad as it goes , unlike the XP one

There are no known incompatabilities that I know of between comodo and avast (In fact I dont know of any incompatablities with Comodo and ANY program (*there used to be issues with AVG etc, but all have been fixed to my knowledge) ~ unlike Zonealarm)
Did you try switching the DEFENSE mode off in case you accidentally set it wrong somehow?
By all means uninstall comodo and switch to vistas inbuilt one to see if that works. But if comodo isnt allowing it I would hazard a guess youve set it wrong somehow.:idea:0 -
Thanks to both for the input.
I uninstalled Comodo 3, I didn't like it anyway in comparison to 2. Too many "pop ups"!
Switched on Windows firewall and that enabled Avast to work (access anddownload updates) properly.
However, now installed ZoneAlarm and it's working fine with both Avast and Vista. Windows firewall disabled.
Fortunately it's not my laptop and if it were there would be a large hammer through it by now because of the awful (my opinion) Vista. What a refreshing change to revert back to good old XP!
Thanks again for the help.0
