Tables or tabs help please.

I need to post a thread that contains tables or tabs and can't get the posting box to allow me to do this. It all appears fine until I click the submit button, but then, if in a table, all the contents of the table shoots over to the right of the post, and if tabs, or spaces it just bunches all the columns together with just one space between the text in a row.

The forum software only supports very limited types of formatting. Multiple spaces, tabs, and other types of formatting may appear fine in the posting box, but they will be stripped out when you actually post (or preview the post).

If you want to order data in columns then you can do it by using some spacing with characters that are not spaces and a fixed width font (courier new).

Like this:

Assets
Cash.................................... 0
House value (Gross)..................... 157000
Shares and bonds........................ 0
Car(s).................................. 5000
Other assets............................ 0
Total Assets............................ 162000

If you want to get rid of the spacing characters then you can format their colour to be white.

Assets
Cash.................................... 0
House value (Gross)..................... 157000
Shares and bonds........................ 0
Car(s).................................. 5000
Other assets............................ 0
Total Assets............................ 162000

Or if you have the table in Word/Excel etc or other program then you can post as an image:

I've tried copying & pasting an excel table, but after clicking on submit the table contents shoot over to the right of the screen without any of the boxes. How do mean show as an image? If I try the insert image symbol it asks me for a URL address.

You need to copy it into a graphics program to save as an image.

Then use somewhere like tinypic to host the image. That will give you the forum code to enter into your post.

Like this for my image:

Whichever way you choose it is a bit of hassle to get a table into posts. :undecided
