Hi,
I've been searching for a hard drive and I've found one I like (Seagate SV35.2 Series ST3250820AV) but the blub states it was designed for the digital video surveillance industry. Am i right in thinking this just means its more rebust in terms of re-writing and there is nothing about it that makes it less suitable for standard pc use?
Thank you.

I suspect these drives are optimised for PVR's and the like, so that they can read and write at same time, sometimes more than once
They tend to be a little more and harder to source0 -
This one is £2 more for the 250GB compared with the 160GB Baracuda, so I think I'll go for it!
Many thanks0 -

It's actually more to do with not generating a lot of heat from constant running. A HDD in a DVS system is running 24/7 whereas one in a PC goes to sleep most of the time until needed so it doesn't get as hot.0 -

The surveillance solutions market has moved from analog tape-based systems to digital hard drive-based systems. Seagate SV 35 Series hard drives are engineered specifically for use in digital video surveillance systems.

As Conor says, a DVR (Digital Video Recorder) works 24/7/365 therefore the hdd must be more robust/reliable for that usage.
