Overdraft or Credit Card

Does anybody know is it easier to get a Overdraft or a Credit Card from your own bank in terms of internal scoring?

  • If you are good for one then you tend to be good for the other.
Depends on your circumstances what would be better for you - if you need to draw cash then O/D should be what you apply for.

It depends entirely on the bank you're with and your own personal circumstances. As a general rule though, ODs are quite easy to get if you manage your account well.

Your credit history will still affect those apps, no matter how impeccable your bank conduct has been they can still use that info to refuse you.

  • I've had experiences where I've been given overdraft limits of as much as £4k from the get-go but no credit card.
  • From my own experience, ODs are a lot easier to get than a credit card, though with an OD you need to pay quite a high rate of interest from the day you spend on it, and with a CC you get the interest free period and usually a lower rate of interest.

I'd suggest calling or going into your bank, and asking if they think it would be worth your time applying for a credit card. Uually, if you can have one, at this point they will bite your hand off to sell you one...
