Before I buy could someone please give me some help. Been looking through the forum and people are talking about loads of different things in addition to the console. I'm probably totally out of touch but would have thought if you but the console, there would be everything needed in the box to enable basic play?? Anyway... what would you think is most useful ....
remote control
nunchuk
wii fit
gun
steering wheel
Plus, any idea what wii play and wii sports are?
I need to decide upon suitable games - it's going to be a gift for my 40y dh - he keeps saying he really thinks our 6yro really wants one (eventhough ds hasn't a clue what a wii is!!!). Need games for both of them!
Started off thinking may finally give in and get one for Christmas but ££££££££ :eek:0 -
Hi there
First post so please go easy on me!
The standard Wii package comes with 1 wii remote, 1 nunchuk and wii sports (plus all the cables, power cords and other gubbins to allow you to plug it in, connect to your tv and start playing). The wii remote is the most used and most useful piece of kit. The nunchuk plugs into the remote and is used in most games for your left hand controls (assuming you are right handed and are holding the wii remote in that hand). Wii sports includes 5 games, all of which are fairly good but perhaps limited in long term appeal.
I went through the whole Wii purchase last year and would recommend that you buy an extra nunchuk and wii remote, which will allow you to play two player games such as tennis in Wii sports. The wii remote can be purchased as a package with wii play for only a few quid more than the price of the remote itself. Wii play includes 9 mini games which again are mostly good but of limited appeal.
For the other things - The steering wheel is only useful for driving games like Mario kart; The gun for shooting games (surprise surprise). Wii fit comes with a remote balance board and is supposed to act like a personal fitness regime, plus it has other fitness and balance related mini games included.
As for games - it really depends on what your dh and 6yo enjoy - super mario galaxy is good for kids, there are plenty of driving games and shoot em ups for older kids. gamespot and gamerankings websites provide the best reviews and advice.0 -

Hi
I was toying with the idea of getting one for my daughters this christmas. However, I don't have a big living room and I am a bit worried they will end up crashing in the TV when they play. What do you think? Also, what games would you recommend for a 14 year old and a 10 year old (real tom boy).
Any advice welcome.0 -
Hi there
Our room is fairly small (about 6 feet by 8 feet playing area) and we have managed not to break anything so far this year. My son is 7 and he and his friends don't hold back during wii tennis, boxing or bowling. I still fear for my LCD tv though!
As for games, Mario kart would be good for all ages, as would super smash bros. Zelda is excellent for older ones (like myself!). There are loads of others but many are dross, as with any console. Gamerankings and gamespot have good reviews and scores for all games.0 -
Thanks. I bought one this week end from Smiths.0

Just in case anyone's looking this, Smyths in Ballymena have just got a batch in (£69.99). I picked up a bundle of Wii console/sports & wii fit + £10 vouchers for £229, crimbo sorted........:jWhat if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about !!!0

Woolworths in Antrim have Wii Fit for £69.99.
I bought my kids a wii for xmas last year, 6year old and 9 year old and I can honestly say its the best thing that has ever come into the house!
I got the wii fit board in the summer and the novelty has worn off and it hasnt been used for weeks but hopefully there will be more compatible games released.
Games: my kids love MarioKart (so do I lol Santa is bringing a 3rd remote!), they have also spent hours on Carnival funfair, Raving Rabbids 2, wii sports, wii play and beach sports. They like the party games where they can play against each other.
All in all a great system for keeping them a little bit active when its cold wet and dark!;)0 -
My local Asda has Wii fit in on it's own for £69, I live in County Durham NE England but maybe if they have some others will too. The chap at the counter said he still had a few left because word isn't out yet and he had had them a couple of days.................... It's great cos you don't have to buy a bundle. Happy shopping.0
