Help my TV has gone greeny/yellow

I have no idea what is going on but my tv keeps losing its colour and the pictures have a greeny/yellow colour.

It is a fairly new TV - only about a year old it is a Samsung flat one (sorry don't know correct term)

Any ideas what it could be?

Check the scart lead is fully in, sounds like you are losing the red signal...

  • As you can tell I am not very technical!!!

Whne I press the sky button and use any of the sky services the screen is greeny but if I select the channel I want then press TV on the sky remote I get the right colour screen back but as soon as I press SKY again to enable me to change the channel it goes greeny again until I choose what I want then press TV again.

Very odd, probably something simple but I really don't know. I will just check all the leads at the back and make sure they are pushed in properly.
Typical it happens on the week which my oh is not coming home!!!

Yes I think it is fixed now!!!!!!

I think one of the cats probably pulled the lead a bit as they were playing behind it earlier. Thanks :D:D
  • sounds like digital jaundice, usually sorts itself out if you play with its wires

That's great to hear. The reason that the picture changed is because when you press the blue 'SKY' button on your remote the RGB output of the digibox is enabled, this utilises separate pins in the scart for the three colours. When you press the 'TV' button the Sky box reverts to composite out (disables RGB). The pins connecting this signal were obviously still in place on the Scart connection.

Hi, I have the same problem except my TV is 13 years old. It reverts to normal colour with a sharp tap to the top of the TV.

Is it time to look for a new one? Wonder if I can get it to last until after Christmas to take advantage of the sales!

I would suggest that the sales have already started!

A sharp tap solving the problem sounds like a loose connection inside. You can have a look yourself if you're confident.

BE VERY CAREFUL, HIGH VOLTAGES A GENERATED BY THE TUBE AND SOMETIMES THE CHASSIS (CHECK FOR LABELS)

    I know - I've had a shock from the TV!!

I will second that, worked with TV's and I can tell you that the chassis more so in the HV section of the set where the fly back transformer lives is floating and not at the same potential as ground, and is typically live at 600V, so I would not attempt working inside a TV unless you have the proper kit for safety i.e. a 1:1 isolation transformer inline within the mains supply. Be careful.
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.

Just a small anecdote - i remember changing the transformer on a CRT TV and not discharging the tube before putting the new cap on from the transformer.
That one hurts - and does this ...

but, surprisingly enough, you only do it once!!!
