Sussex Free Range Lamb - do you think this is a good deal?

Hmmmm... is there such a thing as "free range" lamb?, i have never seen anything about lambs being intensivley farmed, don't they all get to wander about in the open eating grass?0

Looks like a great deal and a massive food mile saving too. Anyone know any farms nearer the North side of London where the same sort of deal can be obtained?
I used to live in North London, there is a huge farm near Trent Park, near Enfield - Ferny Hill Farm that has a farm shop. I haven't bought meat there - only preserves and cakes though. It might be worth contacting them - they may know of a nearby farm that sells meat?
Hatfield also have a farmers market once a month too. Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

Point taken, but the other nice point about buying locally is that they are just taken in small numbers - about 8 per week - to the local abbatoir a couple of miles down the road and slaughtered, so they aren't travelling miles and miles either. Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

Agreed it isn't as commonplace as other animals such as pigs, but lamb can be force-fed and factory farmed. This is particularly common practice with imported lamb.
The farm I bought from allow theirs to mature slowly - naturally. This was the primary reason for buying from this farm.

OH and I recently ordered a whole lamb from our local butcher. it was 26 kg in weight and we paid £104, ie £4 per kilo.

Falady/Ali,
Where abouts in West Yorkshire is your butcher? And what cuts did you get for that price? Very interested in stocking the freezer right the way through.... And for that kind of price - you can't complain!!!
