Hard drive failure

When I boot up I get a warning that my hard drive is about to fail. All seems OK except that I get a warning balloon telling me that data has been lost due to ``delayed write fail``. Any thoughts please?

does the warning come in windows or during the boot up sequence before it gets to windows ?

This post on another forum suggests that the problem might have been caused by lack of disk space:

There's some info from Microsoft here:

XP home and my puter is about 3 years old. Rebooted and chkdsk ran a scan and found various things. It seems to be running normally now. Thanks so far guys!0

>>> Backup all your important data and photos, before messing about with the drive! <<<
With the data backed up, you can run the manufacturer's diagnostic tool - do you know what make the drive is, and I'll link you to the tool. Run a quick/basic test within the tool - if that finds nothing, then run the advanced/thorough test.
If that test still finds nothing, then I'd suggest it's either an operating system problem or a damaged data cable.Everybody is equal; However some are more equal than others.0
