Slow processing Excel 2007 - Please help!

We recently upgraded to MS Office 2007 and all Excel files are now .xlsx. I have a spreadsheet in Excel which I use daily. I changed it to a .xlsx from a .xls when we upgraded the systems.
The spreadsheet is about 170 tabs, each tab has 15 rows and a varying number of columns. Tab 169 collates the information from the other tabs, giving me a grand total. Tab 170 puts tab 169 in alphabetical order (as opposed to reference number) and the two totals at the bottom should obviously be the same.
Each row of tab 169 has a total from different tabs (1 - 168) that is done as a copy & paste link.
Tab 170 is then a further copy and paste link of 169, but in alphabetical order.
The problem (finally) - when I insert or delete rows/columns in any of the tabs, it is very slow. Any more than 5 insertions/deletions in an hours closes down excel and freezes. Also, sometimes tab 170 doesn't copy the link properly so when I update say, tab 18, it shows the correct value on tab 169 but not on 170.
The older version of Excel never had these problems. Is there a problem with this particular spreadsheet?
I really don't want to have to call out an engineer. Is anyone else having this problem?? Thanks.

Have you resaved the spreadsheet to a new named file using Save As? There could be a fault with the file, a fault with Excel, a multitude of potential issues.0

I thought a multitude of potential issues may be the case..! I guess I will just have to try a few different trial and errors and see what happens... Was hoping it may be a common error with transfering between the two versions that could be rectified simply!Official DFW Member 716 - Proud to be dealing with my debts0
