Ex wants a consent order

When I split up from my wife 4 years ago we had a separation agreement drawn up and I was paid a percentage of the value of the house that we both agreed on. This year I have divorced her, remarried and moved away albeit closer to my children's school.
Last week the ex told me that she is getting a consent order because it will stop me having a claim on her assets and her having a claim on mine. The other thing she said was that if she lost her job I would still be responsible for her!!!!
I have remarried so surely I am no longer responsible for her. Also she has a wealthy family so is it likely that she is trying to protect any future inheritance she has by getting this consent order.
Because she is doing it all online she has asked for my personal details on mortgage, house value, income and savings. I have refused to give her any information.

What I need to know is how does it affect me and my wife if I refuse to go along with the consent order?

Thanks

  • She may have meant that you would have to pay her some maintenance, as she is caring for your children, as well as the maintenance you pay for them.
If you are divorced, that is as far as your responsibility to her goes, as far as I understand it from what Sols explained to me when I got divorced.

I don't think that you have to give her any financial info for the consent order to go through, but I'm not 100% so hope someone else will be able to advise you more on that.

    All the best,

You would be well advised to get a consent order even though you are divorced and see the finances as finished. there have been horror stories where 1 party has blown their share and come back years later for more as there had been no clean break. Form that is required is D81

you will see from that what information is required. This completed form goes in front of a judge who stamps it to make it binding
