Any good offers for an external hard drive?

Hi, I am looking for an external hard drive to back up some of my files, anyone recommend any of them? What is the most reliable/unreliable brand?

Theres a 250gb Freecom drive at pcworld for £90 - might be able to get a working voucher to make little cheaper.

If you want a portable drive which doesn't need an external power supply you want to look for a 2.5" drive, the 3.5" drives will need an external power supply.

The only problem with the 2.5" drives is you probably will not get one bigger than 80gb.....this is due to the high cost of the hard drives, I made my own portable about two years ago...bought an housing from ebay and a second hand 20gb laptop hard drive to put in it...at the time it cost me about £45.00 on the parts, but the cost has well out weighed the useage its had :)

  • Maplin have a In Store Deal, £70 for a 60GB 2.5 Inch (Laptop Size - All Power Comes from the USB Port). Its Western Digital, and is coated in thick rubber for bump and drop protection.

Savastore also have others available that are a bit smaller. Unsure on reliability though.
