Phone line maintenance

Hi everyone,
I'm currently with Sky talk/brodband/TV but line rental with BT. Because of the restrictions with 1280, I'm considering moving the rental to Sky who are doing free caller display. However, I'm worried that in the event of any problems with the line, I may be charged by BT, or worse still, I'd be stuck in the middle between BT and Sky passing the buck. Does anyone know how this works? Who would be responsible for line maintenance?

Before doing something... do nothing

In effect, Sky do nothing though except task BT Openreach to do the work but, like all the other so-called 'line providers' now in the market, they may be loath to call Openreach out - because it'd costs them money.
Remember that handing over your line rental puts you at the mercy of the new 'line provider' with regard to call charges. We already know the grossly excessive charges Sky applies to 0845 and 0870 calls and, IMHO, that begs the question, "What's next?"
Update 3-8-09. Sky now includes 0870 calls in its Sky Talk call packages.

If you're on Sky Talk Freetime, I'd recommend changing to a CPS calls provider which gives you the same - or better - free evening and weekend UK 01, 02 and 03 calls but which does not 'bar' 1280.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Plus BT gives you free caller display as long as you route two calls per month via BT. Ideal if you have the free Primus Saver 2.It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0

I have sky broadband (connect) sky talk unlimited and line rental with Sky. I have had a problem with my broadband for two weeks now and the fault appears to be on my phone line. Sky have contacted me to advise that they have been looking into things and BT openreach have carried a few tests out on line and problem should be resolved. Sky advisor got my husband to run a few tests and the problem is still there so what they have done is they have arranged BT Openreach visit for tomorrow between 8am and 1pm, this has all been arranged and has cost me nothing.0

2 weeks and still a fault - don't sound good to me. I take it this is a warning to others. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc...
