Claiming Dental Fees on Travel Insurance

Options
Hi

I broke a couple of teeth recently on holiday.

I will need these crowned which is going to cost a fortune.

Can anyone tell me if they have claimed the cost of the dental fees on their travel insurance?

Thanks

I suppose it would depend on the terms of the insurance, and the cause of the teeth breaking.

Was it an accident like a car accident, or falling over and smashing them that caused it, or was it biting on something hard? You might have a chance if it was a blow to the mouth sort of accident, but not if it was something like an olive stone.

If they were heavily filled anyway, and just fell to bits on holiday, then I think they'd just laugh!
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

It was an accident, slipped on a wet tile and teeth met an immovable object.

Have never had any problems with my teeth in the past.

I will phone insurance company anyway, just wanted to check on here to see if it would be worth my while.

Look for the phrase 'dental accident' in your insurance policy.

The policy document is the place to look.

Mine says, “If you are injured…….during your trip we will pay the following…….up to £350 for dental emergency treatment outside the UK to relieve pain.”

Suspect most policies are along these lines and only cover emergency treatment abroad regardless of how you fell. Full repair costs are not covered.

If there was negligence in how you slipped you have the not so easy option to sue if so minded which is another story.
