Barclays closed acc:no reason given

• I was with Barclays for 6 years, I had no overdraft & a Barclay Card which I paid every month. Four months ago the cash machine ate my card & when I went into the bank to find out what was going on, I was told my account was being closed. Obviously I argued with them however no one in the bank could or would tell me why this had happened. I received a letter from barclays stating that I do not meet 'the criteria' and I was not allowed to bank with them again!
I then contacted the Financial Ombudsman who took my complaint and wrote to barclays for a final response. Again I got nothing more then 'I do not meet the criteria.' What a lot of help that was!
I needed a bank account (especially as I had no where for my wages to go into) I decided to join HSBC, however less then 24hours after opening an account I got a phone call telling me my account was to be closed. Two days later I received a letter saying 'I dont meet the criteria.' Obviously I started to panic now! I sent off for my credit report thinking it must be bad! However it was fine! Everything was up to scratch and my credit wasnt bad at all.
I decided to try and open a simple cash account just to be safe. No credit check, no cheque book! Just somewhere for my wages to be paid into. But again what did I get? 'YOU DO NOT MEET THE CRITERIA!'

What the hell is the criteria?????

I then requested my Data Protection Act from both Barclays & HSBC. It clearly stated that around the time my accounts were closed, the banks were contacted by some kind of fraud office. It showed urgent messages from the fraud team (who is the fraud team?) saying to closed down my account urgently and do not re-open!

Now I am really worried! I have never committed fraud but obviously there is something against my name so bad as I cannot get a bank account ANYWHERE! Citizens Advice have been no help at all & I really dont know where to turn.

Can anybody help??

You'd be better off starting a new thread rather than resuscitate one that's nearly 3 years old. You need to check your credit report to see if there is a CIFAS marker.

Off topic. I really miss Shelfstacker and wish she would return.

Or just try escalating and/or complaining to Bob Diamond, Barclays Chief Executive, via sending an em to robert.diamond@barclaysplc.com.

Good luck and hope this helps.
