Abbey Bond question?

I hold an Abbey 7% fixed rate bond that is soon to end/mature and was in my name only. I started to worry as it was over the 50k threshold so we went in to add my husbands name, just as a safeguard. It was not clear in the branch whether they could do this they thought not and the staff phoned the bond office and were told it was ok and the status of the bond would not be affected or interest. This did worry me a bit as I dont want to find out in a few weeks time I have lost the interest and know one to back up what I was told. Has anyone else done this?
