Cancelling a Credit Card

DH has had a Citicard for a few years now to try and repair his credit rating, he's now been given a 0% Halifax card and just been offered a 0% Marbles card, we want to cancel the Citicard completely as obviously now we are eligible for decent cards we no longer wish to hold one with such a high interest rate. But not having had credit cards before we have no idea how to go about actually cancelling one so that it is properly done and recorded on our credit history?
Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

Usually a telephone call is enough. And ask them to send a letter with confirmation that account had been closed.
