hotel booking with expedia...what happens if they go bust

booked some hotel accomodation with expedia, lets say £70 a night for 2 weeks, paid in full with a credit card

i was watching martin on tv the other day and he stated you cannot claim back on the credit card if each item isnt over £100 so does the £70 per night come under this , or is the fact the total is £xxx okay

just wondering if i have any kind of comeback or coverage if expedia went down the pan

Comments

  • As long as the one credit card transaction is over £100, ie not 14 transactions of £70, you will be fine.
  • For most of Expedia's buy in full hotels, your contract is with Expedia and they will charge you for the hotel as a travel agent. So, it would have to be Expedia who went bust, and not the hotel itself. If the hotel went bust, expedia would have to refund you.

Whilst its not impossible Expedia are one of the worlds largest online travel booking sites. Trusted and used by millions of people the company alo owns another huge site in Tripadvisor and several other travel companies such as hotels.com and hotwire.

Looking at their roce and eps it sure doesnt look like they are going anywhere soon.
