Anyone think of a good Mother and Daughter costume from Harry Potter?
We're invited to a HP themed party for Hallowe'en, thought I'd better start now - I've a sewing machine and am not too bad, but need some ideas, please, for costumes that won't cost a fortune.:D

How about dressing your daughter as Hermione and then going as her mother. As she was a 'muggle' you could go in normal clothes!0

See, that's the clever kind of answer I was expecting here!! Brilliant!
I would quite like to get dressed up, though!:oMember of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

I went as Bellatrix Lestrange.
Had a black skirt that was kinda layered with lace, a tight lace cardie (was high necked but with eyelets, victorian style) over a plain black top (showing cleavage
), wrapped a bit of lace round my hips like a shawl (like gypsies would wear), black tights and black ankle boots with a high heel.
Make up, thick back eyeliner smudged, pale skin, red lipstick. Hair was left to dry so it would go frizzy, backcombed and grabbed into a high loose pony tail then pulled about a bit (AKA backwards through a hedge look).
The key is layer as much stuff as you can get your hands on, and finding a good wand.
Have fun!0 -
Bellatrix Lestrange sounds good - just got my hair cut though- maybe I can find a wig in Poundland before then.:pMember of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

It can be adapted to anything. All the witches in the films and the books wear the same garb, just different colours. Victorian peasant look, big skirts, tight tops (well, we need a tight top dont we?), heels, mad hair and make up.
Besides, you know you want too!! :rotfl:
Always good to shove a wand down your cleavage! :A
And wear the hedge backwards look.0 -
How old is your DD? If she is young enough to appreciate it perhaps you would like to go as Hermione and her cat Crookshanks? A crooked tail, a "fur" coat hacked to bits, and face paint a cat with fangs. Hermione costume is easy.
The only mother/daughter combo in the books is Mrs Weasley and Ginny...I don't believe and I never did that two wrongs make a right0 -
DD is 10, so a bit past the cat stage.
I forgot about Mrs Weasley, though! I could probably do the Julie Walters look, I liked the Bellatrix Lestrange idea, it's a shame I probably look more like the Miriam Margoyles herbologist prof than Helena Bonham Carter!:o I've no brown clothes, though, to do her, and don't want to spend the money for just one party.Maybe the charity shops would come up with something....Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

If your daughter is Blonde she could be Narcissa Malfoy. All in black but more chic.0
