My washing machine has just died - I need to find a new one asap - has anyone got any tips on any good deals out there?

Thanks in advance!

No idea what the best buy is at the mo, but, can you store the old one? In my poorest days I used to buy only the one make, second hand. The previous 'dead' one I would store in my garden shed and use it for parts. ie, pump, door seal. I kept one old wreck going for years once. And I had five small children and washed a couple of loads a day. I think it was the hardest working machine in my kitchen. lol.

"How" has it died ? The most common fault on a washing machine is the motor brushes having worn out, the drum stops rotating.
It will be a lot cheaper to replace these than buy a new machine !
  • I just bought an Indesit (1600 rpm, 8 KG load) washing machine from Currys last month. It was reduced from £180 down to £150 and is A+ rated for energy efficiency.

    Hope this helps.

Managed to keep my last washer going for a couple of years by replacing the brushes - cost of about £18, fitted them myself and am by no means mechanically minded.
