Possibility of income tax/NI claim because of incorrect details?

I have been working for just over a year. Every one of my payslips shows the normal deductions for income tax and NI, however my employer has no details of mine whatsoever (including my NI number) and they do not appear anywhere on my payslips.

Today, i recieved a form from the Inland Revenue, which was to be filled in by my employer, but having no information on me, I have the form to complete. The form seems to be to update my details, which as the form states are currently showin my date of birth as 01/01/1901 (109 years old!) and my NI number as QQ000000.

I was just wondering whether i had any case at all to claim any Income Tax or NI back which i have paid under incorrect details?

I would appreciate any help or advice, Thanks.

    What was the form number?

You can't claim the National insurance back but should ensure it is allocated to your national insurance number (NINO). You can claim any overpaid tax back. HMRC can review your taxes for the last 6 years if you want. They probably have a record for you under a temporary NINO and are asking you to confirm your correct details so that they can update your record. Send them your P45's and P60's for those years where you think you overpaid and they will check for you.

  • as for making sure the NI is on the right account - call 0845 302 1479 - national insurance enquiries.
