Satnav map updates

Hello,
Apologies if this is being repeated, but I am trying to find out about map upgrades for sat navs. I am trying to buy one, not fussed about brand but price is an issue. I've seen a few reasonably priced ones (around £55-80ish) by Garmin and Navman, but can anyone tell me if I will need to pay extra for map updates as and when or can I get them for free (or where I can find out about this)? I don't need any fancy features, just don't want to have to keep forking out later on.
Many thanks!

Yes you need to pay, but roads don't really change much, do they?0

I think Garmin only release updates every two years. The problem is the price of an update is not far off the cost of a new unit.
The only places you can get updates for free are illegal so can't be discussed on here. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
I have a cheap Navman F10 and it doesn't have the A5 dual carriageway on it between Tamworth and the A38, lol. It shows you driving across a field!.....0

I did that a couple of years ago in Cornwall. There's a new section at the end of the A303 and I was going offroad according to the SatNav! It was suggesting I turn around at the next avialable chance for about 5mins :rotfl::A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Please don't be offended if that opinion differs from yours, but feel free to click the 'Thanks' button if it's at all helpful!0

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread but does anyone happen to know how much typical map updates cost? I understand that Tom Tom updates cost around £40 a time. Does anyone know how much Garmin ones or any other brands cost?0

Buy the sd cards through ebay. a lot cheaper than downloading updates and when you are done with it sell it on again.0
-
Download TomTom home from their web site and use the Map Share option which costs nothing0
