London Congestion Charge

Just to say if you apply to the London congestion people (I'll find the link later) you pay a one off £10 admin fee. They register your car and you don't pay the congestion charge. (You need DLA blue badge obviously).

Also if you plan day out (Museums etc) its worth checking their websites as many have small carparks you can use if you book ahead.

Bear in mind that, though the TfL website doesn't make it too obvious, if your car is VED exempt you can drive through the Congestion Zone to your heart's content, all free of charge, no prior registration required.
  • Also if you have a motorbility car that is VED to cross the Dartford tunnel or return over the QE2 bridge is also free of charge with your badge
  • hello, how does the bridge free toll work, is it automatic based on your registration or do you have to show some other proof ? Thanks

I usually show my 'blue badge' and they just come out of their cubicles and take my registration no. I save a quid everytime I cross the river to go to Essesx and return to Kent so its well worth it
P.S. if you need to go on the toll road around Birmingham you have to write to them first with your details, and they will also grant you access without charge. I found that out when I drove up to the Blackpool meet a couple of years ago.
Also my DD has her car no. plate registered on the London Congestion toll-free access as she sometimes has to drive me into London for treatment
  • Hi Jackieo, please can you tell me how you register the car with london congestion charge, as I am having to take my little girl to great ormond street soon so this would be great help, although my car has the tax exemption and she has blue badge, so would it be automatic? thanks

It's automatic (see post #2) as long as you are driving the VED-exempt car.

Not trolling at all! Just asking questions that, as you are clearly aware of all the legislation, you will be able to answer easily and in a constructive way. ;)
