Also, if there is perhaps a way to combine short trips where you might ordinarily make them all separately that should bring the petrol cost down.
  • My dad has just bought a new Focus 1.6 petrol and was saying he is dissapointed by the mpg he is getting ... he has always kept a wee book and works out his mpg after every fill.

P.S. My 11-year old Mondeo 1.8 petrol is still doing around 40mpg combined.
  • I have an 07 Focus 1.6 & according to the trip meter I am getting 23.8mpg. I am not too bothered about it as I do mostly short trips & town driving, it is what I expect on mostly short trips.

That's because you are sensible and understand these things!

If we all went on the motorway and did a steady granny drinving (anewman's quote not mine :D ) of about 55 mph, then we would get better fuel consumption.

I think it is all common sense really..........

And how is the voiceless anewman today I wonder?? Poor soul has a cold, bless... :o (He said man flu.. :D )

New engines take a while to bed in. Fuel consumption and power should improve markedly from 10k to 20k.

i just struggle to understand how a car that, worst case scenario (complete urban 32.5 mpg) my driving style is so bad im getting 130 miles a tank less, when i have also done some distance driving on this tank also.

    thanks anyways.

worst case scenario is worse than 32.5, ive had fuel consumption in my focus as high as 28 mpg, this is heavy right foot driving around town. but at best its been a long run on motorway (400 miles) and returned 42 mpg, this is on a 1.6 focus.
