National Concessionary Scheme - free bus travel

  • DH has one of these bus passes, it is supposedly chipped to allow a carer to travel free with him.
I must admit we have had no success using it. Bus drivers tell us we need a seperate card and I should pay.
We live in a rural area so its possible the drivers aren`t familar with these cards. Anyhow after contacting everyone including our MP we aren`t using the card, for us it more hassle than its worth and we are sick of going around in circles!
However saying all this, these cards may work in your area - good luck!

Sorry to hear you have had so much hassle - and worse that no-one seems to be able to sort it out for you. I understood that the carers card was a separate card, in our area. I could be wrong though.

up untill the new national scheme came out carers got their own passes. Now when the disabled pass is issued you get +C on it, which means plus carer, not sure if it is issued like that automatically because I asked about it at the time as my carers pass was not renewed. Again it means we have to travel with the disabled person and not on our own to collect prescriptions etc
Typically confused and asking for advice
  • can you tell me if this appllies to:confused: northern ireland?
  • Vixen1500, +C means plus a companion not carer. Oh is a bus driver.
Crosmaglen it should apply in NI.
A national /national disabled railcard covers all countries in Britain. Saving is anyhting between 1/2 and 1/3 off. Also if you book online it is much cheaper than buying at station.

I wonder if you are thinking of some other type of pass?

The national disabled pass gives free travel

I've got one of the new disabled bus passes valid until 2013, but there's no '+C' on it. I enquired about the carer's pass - but evidently it's not a national 'right' just at present. For example: it is only being run on a trial basis in the North East and to qualify you had to have been registered with the Nexus Taxicard.
Some people hear voices, some see invisible people. Others have no imagination whatsoever :D

    I would imagine so
If my typing is pants or I seem partcuarly blunt, please excuse me, it physically hurts to type. :wall: If I seem a bit random and don't make a lot of sense, it may have something to do with the voice recognition software that I'm using!
