Martin, you can be sure that the delivery guy from Comet would get lost anyway when trying to deliver the laptop so you are better off ordering elsewhere anyway.
Three days, three different delivery times, several phone calls and detailed instructions on exactly how to find me before mine was finally delivered and even then it was wrong time and had to be taken in by a neighbour0 -
they have just advertised another laptop for £349 is this the same one i wonder.......smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

Several years ago I went into a well known electrical retailer, at opening time, with an ad from that day's paper looking for a car stereo which was advertised on sale....unsurprisingly it wasn't in stock. I explained that we were driving that day from southern UK to York and would call into whatever town had it available. I insisted the Manager find a shop selling it or I would report them for false advertising.
After much debate the Manager agreed to ring shops - he finally realised there were no stereos on sale and I wasn't going away. In the end he sold me a shop model that cost far more but at the advertised price :O)
I don't know how these shops get away with it?!The smallest deed is greater than the grandest intention ~ Anonymous0 -
Comet and Curry's are well known for doing this at Christmas: Advertise a product loads cheaper than anywhere else but it is NEVER available, and by the time you realise they've had you over to try and make you buy something more expensive in store you're too late for Xmas day itself.
This practise should be made illegal - they've caught out a couple of people at work doing this over the last few years. Why should the sites and stores who do have the stuff in stock suffer because these sites blatantly lie about what they have on offer?0 -

I thought the practise was illegal - I'm sure Trading Standards would have something to say about it!0 -

Never thought I'd find myself praising PC World, but they have a good system where you can use their Internet site to find stuff, buy with full Internet discount (and it would appear Quidco cashback) and reserve the item for collection in their store. I did yesterday to buy a printer and it worked absolutely perfectly.0

I was waiting to buy a DVD recorder from my local Lidl, which had been heavily advertised for almost 2 weeks. I queued up on a cold Monday morning at 8.15am to find that they only had one machine in stock and as I was number 2 in the queue, I lost out. I quickly drove to another store (10 miles away) as you cant actually contact the stores themselves by phone. This store only had 3 arrived, so when I asked what that was all about, I got the usual shrug of the shoulders and little else. I called the 'helpline' and after 10 minutes waiting, was told that they couldnt help at all.
It seems that they do this a lot, but as I dont shop there I dont know about that.
I have written to Lidl about this, but to be honest, they can stuff their DVD recorder. I would rather pay £80 more and get a brand name from a proper shop in the High St. I have also seen reviews that do not look good for this machine, so I am better off anyway.0
