Anyone ever used TeamViewer?

I'm thinking of downloading TeamViewer on mine and my mums PCs. She rings me up quite a bit asking me to sort out problems on her computer and, rather than trying to explain things over the phone, thought it might be worthwhile using a piece of software which would allow me to correct any problems for her.

I was just wondering if anyone had ever used such software and what their experiences of it were. Also, on the TeamViewer website there are different downloads and i'm not too sure which applications I would need to download http://www.teamviewer.com/download/index.aspx. Finally, does it matter that I have Windows XP installed whilst she is using Vista?

Any help and advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

So how easy are they to use? Is it just a case of both computers being logged on at the same time and then you control the other and does it matter about different operating systems?

  • teamviewer required (if i remember right) the client software being run, and a passphrase told to the person wanting control, so someone needs to be there.
logmein also requires software to be run, but once set up with a password you can remotely log in whenever you like, there is notification on the viewed screen

  • Can't you use remote desktop in windows?

If I was to download say LogMeIn, do I then need to tell my mum to download it as well? I suppose that might sound like a stupid question but I just want to be sure I get it right.

  • I have used both programs. I prefer logmein for personal use and TeamViewer when someone wants support.

i second cuddles's answer, but teamviewer is much quicker and reliable as it doesnt need anything installing on a PC, so you can simply within 2 or 3 clicks , request support. Works a treat.
