Radiator fell off wall onto my son

Funnily enough I had the exact same thing happen to me in my rented house.
Our house is about 3 years old and one of our sofas is against the radiator. Randomly one day I heard a massive bang but didn't know what it was. When I moved the sofa out so I could recline my side of it the radiator fell onto the floor!!!
Obviously the same as the OP I paniced and wasnt sure what to do at first.
I had a look at where it had originally been mounted and the wall is just plasterboard but what was worse was they had already tried and failed with some other holes and now the 2 holes had merged into one and ripped part of the wall away.
Assuming the only thing to blame really was our sofa being against it I decided to remount it myself. So I drilled new holes an inch to the side, painted the strips where the old brackets were and remounted the radiator. Unless you really had a good look could you now see what had happened and i've just got to fill the holes(not that they can be seen)
The OP cant really do this because they have told the landlord. In my experiences so far of renting its easier to just do things myself if I can get away with itConsidering I gave up after 6 months of asking for a new £3 homebase value curtain rail!!

Next time you cross a bridge, remember this:
The loading of a 5 year old should not be much greater than that of the radiator itself. My own opinion, if a radiator does not take this loading, then it was never adequately fixed to the wall in the first place - or [more likely] the 'wall' was never adequate to take a radiator

If my child caused a radiator to fall off I'd expect to pay for it to be remounted and any damage caused (I'm a tenant not a landlord)One day I might be more organised...........

Troll == someone who disagrees with Premier. Some of this dates back from June. Are you bearing grudges? :rotfl:
What is going on with Premier? The last few days he's been picking fights/trying to wind up perfectly decen posters and not just muppets and generally just seems well unhappy and angry with the world... it's all a bit weird like watching a breakdown...0 -

I didn't 'let' or 'allow' my child to climb lean or balance on the radiator as some posters have outright accused. He is 5yrs old and doesn't have the judgement that an older child or adult has. Horace, I don't care whether you believe me or not. If you have nothing to say to help, then I don't know why you bothered posting. I thought this forum was here to help people, not accuse and judge.
BTW The radiator is not fixed to any wooden buttresses, it is fixed into plasterboard that is barely an inch thick. Not that I'm an expert, but it seems like a double radiator would need more support than that. The LL came to see the damage and he himself tugged vigorously on a similar radiator to demonstrate that they don't just fall off. Needless to say, the radiator didn't come off. He said he'll pay to get it put right, but that he is expecting to be reimbursed (though he didn't say who by). I suggested that he contact the builders and see if it comes under the guarantee, which he said he'll do. I am now waiting to hear from him and see what's happening.:heart2::heart2:On ne voit bien qu'avec le coeur :heart2::heart2:we're debt freeeeeeeeeeeee....FREEEEDOM!!! :j:T0
