I emailed Natural collection about this product and here is their reply:
Thank you for your email and comments regarding the Eco Button. I have discussed your query with our suppplier and they have informed me that the Eco Button does not use Hibernation mode, which can still use the majority of the computer power and also has a long rewake process. Instead the Eco Button works in an entirely different way, shutting the computer down in seconds and waking it in seconds.

[SIZE=+0]They supplier also provided some energy saving examples as follows:

PC power say 170 Watts, (this depends on PC, screen etc)
Used say 4 hours a day and 20 hours left on, unused
Cost of electricity say 13p per Kilowatt hour.
Power used while under Ecobutton control say 20 Watts (depends on PC but this is a good rule of thumb)

Hitting Ecobutton after PC use and using to rewake the PC would save 20 hours per day at 170 -20 = 150 Watts = 3000 W/Hrs
    Over one year this equates to 3000 W/Hrs x 365 = 1095 KW/hrs.
    At 13p per KW/hrs would save £142.35

If the PC was quite new , had LCD screen, switched mode PSU etc the normal energy used could be around 100 Watts. The standby would drop to say 10 Watts, so the net saving would be 90 Watts per hour, so the equation would look like this:

PC power say 100 Watts, (this depends on PC, screen etc)
Used say 4 hours a day and 20 hours left on, unused
Cost of electricity say 13p per Kilowatt hour.
Power used while under Ecobutton control say 10 Watts (depends on PC but this is a good rule of thumb)

Hitting Ecobutton after PC use and using to rewake the PC would save 20 hours per day at 100 -10 = 90 Watts = 1800 W/Hrs
    Over one year this equates to 1800 W/Hrs x 365 = 657 KW/hrs.
    At 13p per KW/hrs would save £85.41

Whatever PC you have there is a REAL saving to be made. The Ecobutton retails at £15, so pay back is as little as 6 weeks.

The supplier also made the following statement with regards to the manufacturing cost, 'yes there is energy used to produce and ship by sea, but this is inevitable...the equivalent of manufacturing this product in the UK would be nearer £30 [opposed to £15], but the transportation energy would be saved'.

I hope this information has proved useful however should you have any more queries do not hesitate to contact me.

Interesting how they assume that the pc is left on for 24 hours to work out their savings.

But my computer only uses 6 Watts under hibernate!

Yes, that's the maximum possible so it makes their figures look good.

However you haven't got a green button, and it doesn't say ECO either!

Very true, but I do have a shortcut to Hibernate. I could rename it to Eco Button and find a suitable icon for it.
