  • Hi, is your son joining as an officer or as a junior rank? The junior rank aptitude tests are fairly straight forward, basic maths, comprehension and simple engineering type questions, the officer aptitude tests are more about multi-tasking, complex maths and spatial awareness. The best advice for both, particularly the officer tests, is to revise GCSE level maths, especially time / speed calculations.

    Some information here, http://www.mattieb.110mb.com/apt.php

although it is aimed at officer selection there are some useful links such as

Best of luck, I was in his shoes a few years ago and I have enjoyed many great opportunities.

Is a really useful resource when preparing for these things. There are loads of tips and information regarding the application/selection process and you can ask questions. It certainly helped me at OASC.

The aptitude tests were easy and I got almost full marks without studying. They're just like the book that they gave you. Seriously, they're not trying to make it hard. You don't need anything more than the book.

Tell him to revise physics and mechanics (GCSE science) and he'll be fine. The hardest bit was the memory test.
