It matters because previous levels act as support or resistance in present prices.
One guy allready said he bought in loads of shares at that price, so when we return you can find it acts as a pivot for further movement

However I think you have to consider volume and other factors and or its not that obvious to calculate, but even psychologically it will matter I think

The thing about support levels IMO is that people think they're important and so they become important. If the stock rises above a certain average price or below a particular range then people believe it'll break out and then test a new high or low. As a result that's what happens as their behavior makes it happen.
  • I wouldnt buy just because of that, its just another factor to pay attention to but yea I always find the numbers bounce off the hundreds, thats down to the people trading. If DOW goes through 10k and holds that is a factor, ditto for when its approaching that figure

In the biggest increases, there has only been 1 from 2008 although it is 2nd.

The top two rises have been in the last month

There may well be a big rise tomorrow as it's the next option expiry date.

    Or not of course.
  • Would you have a link for that at all. That would explain the mixed market today.

The last trading day is the day before expiry. If a lot of people have bought put options (that is the right to sell something at a certain price) they'll be in the money and looking to take profits tomorrow.

Effectively a put option is another way of going short and there'll be a wave of buying to cover those shorts.

That's a bit of an oversimplification but I don't want to start typing loads of jargon.

Well at least some of them!

    FTSE down -5.53%
    Dow Jones down -3.64%

Looks like investors are still not happy about the current economic climate.

why didn't you start a thread the other day when it was the biggest one-day rise?

DOW jones closed up by the way - you've forgotten to post that... it's probably more fun posting bad news though, you get more attention........

Its not fun posting bad news mate. I don't like it and I don't want to. When it goes down it affects us more then it goes up. When everything is well and good then we are all happy and enjoy our life. But we need to give more attention when something goes wrong. It would be good to know how things work out. Its just awareness. That's all.

fair enough, i understand that bad news affects us all but good news does as well.

it feels a bit that only bad news is being posted, if there is good news it should be posted too. a lot of the issues are to do with mood too.

you're also free to post what you like too ;)

Just like your other threads yesterday pretending you were looking for a mortgage and saying how much they had gone up:rolleyes:
If you don't like posting bad news don't do it!
I am sure most on here can read a news paper or use the internet!

I like debating with people who are hpc but you just post news!
It's house prices not look what I have copied off the BBC forum!

Like the other guy said if you want to bring awareness, post good news also and also have some idea how things will affect people.
Untill you start doing that you are firmly on my top troll list.

what makes me smile about these serial bad news posters is that they get "Thanked" continuosly as if people are thanking for telling them bad news.

i've seen other post by people with "positive" comments and they've just got slammed or don't get "Thanked" at all and are ignored. it feels like people enjoy the negativity and the bad news.

by the way everyone is allowed and welcome to Thank who they like, they're free to do what they wish.

it's not a dig at anyone in particular but just a general observation.
