Dishwasher Tablets

Had to call out a domestic appliance engineer recently to reapair our fridge, when he had repaired it we asked him to take a look at our dishwasher, which for a while had not been operating very well, the first question he asked was were we using powder or tablets, we replied tablets ( a well know brand that gives you soft hands and keeps Ainsley's sink clear), the engineer advised us not to use tablets as the amount of detergent in them has been reduced considerably, apparently the 3in1 style tablets are made up mainly of salt. We went out straight away to the shops and got some powder (shops own brand - every little helps) and used that....and my dishes came up squeeky clean. So the general advice is purchase powder, rinse aid and salt seperataly and not the combined tablet.
Hope this helps

That's what I have gone back to use now, the machine has a place for all the powders so use them, thats what the designers wanted.0

I've found the W5 dishwasher powder from Lidl is good. Big pack for little money too!0

OMG - you are so right... I never even thought of it!! I use the 3 in 1 or 5 in 1 etc etc shops own brand usually. Before I used the salt, rinse aid & either the tablet or powder - it used to wash brill, now it is washed but not really sparkling like it used to!
Going shopping today, will report back when I have done my test lol! What goes around comes around !! Simple but very true :rotfl:0 -
Never realy thought about it. But it makes sense. I use the aldi ones but might try the 3 different ones. Many thanks0

That makes sense, we used Fairy (incase you haven't guessed yet;)) tablets a few months ago and soon enough everything started coming out scummy and covered in limescale, back to Finish and everything comes out sparkling again.0

Tesco that I go to say they are no longer stocking the salt separately because tablets are the way to go.
I have been using tablets cos got BOGOF but have always found need to use salt and rinse aid as well.0 -
After I've used my BOGOF tablets I'll go back to powder. Thanks for the info, OP." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

A while ago I got the Powerball ones on special so I got some. I think they are rubbish compared to Quantum.0
