Illegal house lottery - prize draw halted by the gambling commission

beat me to it G lol0

So, why isn't every raffle held by, for example, GMTV banned?
If people want to buy a ticket I really cannot see the problem. Somebody would have been delighted to win a house for £25. Those who lost chose to buy a ticket.
Sour grapes from those who choose not to gamble is just that, sour grapes.

I completely agree. I didn't believe that the Devon competition would actually come to a conclusion but I didn't think that it would be the gambling commission who would stop it (I assumed that they wouldn't sell the tickets). Looking at their website, it seemed much more legit than the GMTV 'quiz' that runs most days. And how the gambling commission - who publish 'rules' that provide very little clarity - can justify stopping the competition after it has closed when they have had months to challenge it is beyond me.0 -
how about this one ?
www.winpropertyinfrance.com
They say it's a spot the ball competition and not a raffle. What are your views ?0 -
Well a Spot the Ball competition isn't exactly a game of skill IMO at least. You can't work out where the ball is using your skill, you just bung a cross on a piece of paper and hope for the best.
Given that these draws are on the interweb, I wonder what the US-ians, French and others with a rather more restrictive view on gambling laws think about all this?0 -
I'm pretty sure spot the balls are not illegal. Ever seen these super car competitions at airports such as Heathrow ?
They're operating a spot the ball competition. I asked one of their staff once about legality of this and the guy said it was considered a game of skill. Seems confirmed by their website and the UK Gambling Commission never shut them down0 -

thats why it is called the national lottery and not called HBOS / RBS / notherncrock / bradford bingley and the like. in lotteries u win rarely and lose most of the time. if u wanted a surer bet in making money then probably should have bought rbs shares at the present peanuts prices. if the share prices goes up then u win, if it goes down further gordon brown will prop u up anyway with taxpayers millions. worst come worst u will still lose less than what u paid for ur national lottery ticket with the way the RBS share prices are at the moment :beer:bubblesmoney :hello:0
