vivitar are sold on tv channels alot. if you are getting one and it is a digital, forget about the digital zoom, it is useless. you want an optical zoom no less than x 3, the better then len quality the better your photos will look.

samsung had a very good one for £99 but by going through quidco it came down to £90 and there was a discount code also for 10% so the camera worked out at £80, it was a 5 mega pixel camera with x 3 zoom

also the ones on the tv channels come with loads of software you may never use.

vivitar are ok as a budget camera ( digital) but the price of digital cameras has come down enough to have more choice.

  • I had a vivitar camera not long ago. The digital zoom was rubbish and blurred everywhere. Only buy one if it's got an optical zoom! Also I had to take it back because the lens shutter wouldn't shut...

Having owned a 5MP Vivitar last year, my advice would be to avoid unless EXTREMELY cheap.

They eat batteries and you need 2200mAH NiMh rechargeables to get more than about 12 shots per set of batteries. Some disposable batteries won't even take 1 shot!!

I'd go for one of the current offers for better brand name 5MP optical zoom models reduced to around £100.

digital zoom on ALL cameras is useless - all it does is enlarges part of the frame - ie you can do that afterwards with photo editing software anyway!
