Can you exchange stamps for cash?

I've recently discovered I have a lot of first day covers which were given to me as a kid by grandparents. I've checked on ebay, and they're worth bob all.

So it made me wonder, since the stamps have a monetary value on them (each pack has five stamps in them, adding up to over a quid and I have about 40) is there any way to exchange them back into money?

Or do I just have to send a lot of christmas cards this year?

Em

Nope - a frayed knot. Just use them for sending letters and cards instead of buying new stamps :)

You might be better off looking to sell them via an actual stamp collectors' site rather than through eBay. A quick Google search for "stamp collectors" brings up a number of sites. I clicked on the first link that came up (below) and they are selling a number of First Day Covers... On the first page alone prices vary from £5 – £40. I guess it depends on how rare or in demand yours are.

    Hope that helps

  • Thanks for that, I shall have a look now - I don't think they'll be worth an awful lot they're only from 90s, although it scares me now that that's 18 years ago.

I did however find out that while the Post Office won't buy them back, Royal Mail "may in certain circumstances" but they want 15% commission and there's form filling involved!
