This is one of those emails that is doing the rounds ATM. I received it today.
I don't know if it's true or not  But the message makes sense to me. I thought I'd share it...I'm not sure if it's been posted before

I hope it helps someone else :santa2:

Be aware of a new car-jacking scheme. You walk across the car park, unlock your car and get inside, lock the doors, start the engine and goto reverse. You look into the rear-view mirror to back out of your parking space and notice a piece of paper stuck to the middle of the rear window. So, you shift back into park or neutral, unlock the doors and get out to remove the paper (or whatever it is) that is obstructing your view.

When you reach the back of your car the car-jackers appear out of nowhere, jump into your car and take off. Your engine was running and you would have left your handbag or briefcase in the car.

APART FROM NICKING ANYTHING OF VALUE, THEY MIGHT FIND YOUR ADDRESS AND THEY ALREADY HAVE YOUR KEYS!

Remember, if you see your rear view blocked like this just drive away and remove the paper later ! It is stuck to your window!

THIS SCAM IS HAPPENING IN LONDON RIGHT NOW AND WILL SURELY SPREAD TO OTHER AREAS

Be thankful that you read this email.and forward it to friends and family especially to women!

JUST BE AWARE AND TAKE CARE. IT WILL SOON ARRIVE IN YOUR AREA.

The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.

The email might well be a hoax...

...the precautions to take are minimal to stop you being a victim.

you say it's a hoax, but it's such a simple idea there's very little to stop some criminal out there doing it.....

    it's worth thinking about......

How about just paying attention and being alert? The trouble with all these crappy hoaxes is that they feed on people's paranoia until you can't even ask someone the time in case they think that you're about to scam them out of money etc.

  • If you have to reverse out of a space, one would assume you have to approach your vehicle from the rear. Should this be the case, surely you'd see anything attached to your back window?

  • There is lots of car jacking going on at present - Honda Civic Type R's and Golf GTI's being targeted a lot. A father and son were stabbed up here in Birmingham this week for their car and I know someone who had 3 attempts (inc smashing the front door in while they were in) on their Civic before it was stolen. If they want they will get it. Unfortunately this is the side effects of good car security.

I'm sure other members will post their tips too, but here are some of mine.

Try to reverse park whenever possible.

When approaching a junction/traffic lights, leave sufficient distance between you and the vehicle in front so that you can see their tyres and the road surface.

When you get in your car if your first action is to put your seatbelt on, make your second to lock all the car doors. A friend of mine survived/thwarted an attempted car-jacking at a junction.........because she had her car doors locked.

love to get the device that you can get fitted only in south africa. its like a flame thrower that comes out from the side and underneath the car. if a driver senses he is going to be car jacked he presses two buttons and het presto the car thief is on flames and dies an agonising death - good for him
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D
