iPod advice please

My teenage son has given me his 80 GB ipod classic as he has upgraded (at my expense of course). He's got a huge amount of music on it which I don't want to delete but how do I sync the contents of my own iTunes account onto this one without deleting existing content?

In short, unless you get the original files off his PC or the iPod, you can't, There's plenty of tools on the net to pull the music files off the ipod onto the PC though.

The easiest thing to do, is to copy all your sons music from his music folders on his computer to your music folders, then get iTunes to pick them all up. Next time you sync it won't try and delete them all off. (Assuming you both live in the same house, own the same music, and or use the same computer, otherwise people may consider it piracy ;) )

There are support guides from Apple on how to move to a new PC and pull of music from an iPod - I've posted the links a few months ago in similar iPod threads, but you'll need to do a search!

Else, as Conor says, there are plenty of third party software applications which enable you to access all the music from an iPod and copy to a computer.

As above, easiest way is to take his music off his computer - have you a portable hard drive or something? You can even use the iPod if you put it in 'drive mode'. However, if these aren't an option, search for 'yamipod' which is a really handy tool for managing your iPod files without iTunes.

  • If you enable veiw hidden files and system files you can do it or there are some easy tools that will handle it all for you...just google it :)
