Dodgy Ethernet lead?

I have Telewest broadband using ethernet connection. Recently I often have a problem when I switch the computer on to find Outlook Express stuck on 'connecting' and unable to download e-mails also Internet Explorer unable to open a web site. I have to close down the computer, push the wire into the modem and try again until finally we get the connection. I can only assume there is a loose wire or bad connection. Can I ask Telewest to sort this out and would I be charged for the call out?
Thank you

Did they supply the modem? If it is faulty you could ask for a replacement. Is there another modem you could try to check that is the fault? Other than that you would find a cheap one on ebay.

Telewest have ongoing problems with email authentication causing either complete loss or severe delay in accessing. its something their 'working on' (so they've said for the last 2 month )

The webpage problem isn't uncommon on telewest at the moment either, its often caused by having too many concurent connections on the same channel since the upgrades.
I had a similar problem where I thought it was the etehrnet cable, turned out be a combination of a low signal power and a short in the external cable.

The best place for instant support is to use the blueyonder newsgroup, the techs hand out there and often solve problems remotely without the need to send someone out.

If your on BB, you'll need the hi-speed group.

One last point though, give your PC a good spyware/virus/trojan scan.
