Recommendations for a fridge freezer

Hi there,
My fridge freezer is coming to the end of its life (ie. the door won't shut and is currently being held in position with gaffer tape  ). Freezer is okay, well to a point.
Anyhow it's 14 years old, is a basic Candy model and has served me well.
I'm looking to spend around £250 or up to £300 if pushed.
Any particular makes to avoid or especially recommended? Beko and Indesit keep coming up on my searches. I would like to have one in silver.
Am jealous of people who have the space and resources for those big american style ones with fancy gadgets but sadly, they are not an option.

We got Hotpoint and it is fantastic. We got the one with everfresh system, and it is quite good. Never had any problems with it. Sadly, since we moved in this rented place, it had to stay in the garage, as there was one built-in electrolux and that is complete rubbish! It doesn't keep the temperature right, so you either get ice in the fridge compartment, or temperature shoots to 10 degrees (we tried regulating and even kept a thermometer in to check, but the same setting ahd both extremes!!!). We hope to move to another rented house soon and that has a frisge/freezer as well, so sadly we will be saying good by to Hotpoint - I still keep it runing in the garage, as the one in the kitchen is useless and has very little space inside!
Have a look on Good Housekeeping, it seems they are finally adding their reviews of the products.Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -
Thanks for that, I'll have a good look at Hotpoint too.
I must say as mine was only cheap and has lasted all this time (okay many people would have got rid sooner, it does keep freezing my tomatoes and stuff!) I'm not really that fussy, just want another one that's going to last.
So Electrolux not so great....

Isn't this just a great site - thanks to everyone who contributes
I've just been trying to buy an American style fridge freezer from John Lewis - a Samsung that was on offer last July at £553. To cut a long and sorry story short they have just refunded me the money because two deliveries failed - a dent on the first and an indelible mark on the door of the second. Total lack of quality control on the exterior - and who knows what happens about quality control on the interior?
So I am also interested in trying again elsewhere and for another make - it doesn't have to be American style but we do have that much space. I will be watching here with interest and also searching fridge freezers on here to find other views. Good luck with your search

Gosh that's brought up another dilemma for me as I was thinking of using John Lewis because when I bought an armchair from them it was free delivery, they use their own delivery fleet and drivers and they would come on a Saturday too.
Do you think these defects happened en route to you? It's a bit of a worry that twice their quality control has let you down. I've always heard good things about them you see.0
