Any moneysaving tips for buying a Rolex?

Just wondered if anyone had any tips for buying a Rolex.

We have looked abroad (US) and they weren't cheaper.
Also considered airports as we travel a bit but it's hit and miss as to what they have and you can't pre-order. The one we are looking at is quite popular so unlikely to hang around.

Don't bother suggesting ebay - it must be bona fide.

Also no comments please about this not being moneysaving.
Let's get that one out of the way up front :D
If you can genuinely afford luxury goods then there is absolutely no reason not to try to get a good deal.

We have haggled in the past and got a pretty good deal at Goldsmiths on the high st, so that seems to be the only possibility left, unless anyone has any other ideas.

  • If you have any Tesco Clubcard Vouchers, you will get 4 times the value at Goldsmiths...Not all of their shops stock Rolex.

Hi, I used to work in a jeweller selling Rolex and I would suggest that you go to a jeweller and speak with them. You may find that you can get a better deal if you use an independant retailer as they may have more flexibility with the price rather than a high street chain. If you cannot get much taken off the price see if they will throw in the first service and valet free of charge as this will save you money in the future. TBH they don't need to discount Rolex as they sell well anyway.
I must say though, as you say many people will think that this is not money saving but I think that it is probably one of the best watches that you can buy and it will last years and many people buy them and hand them down. I would buy one tommorrow if I have the money!!
I hope this is of some help.

I can see what you mean because not buying a watch is more moneysaving than getting a discount, but if you have decided to purchase something discretionary then there's no harm in trying to save on it.

Lots of people drive nice cars and I have a real old banger out of choice, so I don't think it's up to anyone to decide I shouldn't spend my money on a nice dress, handbag, motorbike or whatever.

I have to say that the current rolex we have has probably out-performed our house, stock, cash and gold in terms of value, so one could view it as a good investment (although we didn't buy it for that reason).

one of the best airports to try is the maldives - they expect you to barter and you can get a great deal. definitely worth trying - you can get a seriously good price there and it will be the genuine article also.

Thanks for th site coolgary but Rolex clearly state that only authorised dealers are allowed to sell Rolex's and these people openly say they aren't an authorised dealer.

I'm not saying they aren't legit, but it's very clear on the Rolex website,.
  • Anyone recommend any watches with "wow factor" at a good price. I currently alternate between a Seiko Choronograph, a smark Armani Watch and a Tag Aquaracer :)
