Sky HD Subscription

I want to buy a sky HD box and use it to receive the free HD channels available (mostly for BBC HD) On checking the Sky website terms and conditions Quote: Luxe TV HD, Channel 4 HD and BBC HD are available without any subscriptions. Channel 4 HD requires a valid viewing card.
and FAQ's Quote: There are three HD channels - BBC HD, Channel 4 HD and Luxe TV HD - available without any subscriptions. To watch these HD channels you will need a Sky HD box and an HD-ready TV (a valid viewing card is required for Channel 4 HD).

I have spoken to two people at Sky about this (one in customer services and one in sales) and both of them told me that I need to take out a Sky subscription at £17 a month plus a Sky HD mix subscription at £10 a month. Either their T&C's and FAQ's are misleading or their sales and helpline staff are misinformed.

Does anyone know what the real position is?

Not sure about the Sky thing but you can get BBC HD and ITV HD on Freesat.

Thanks for that. I have tried a freesat box and I was very impressed but unfortunately my wife is hard of hearing and needs subtitles. There is a major issue with freesat and BBC HD subtitles (ie. they don't work) so I was exploring alternatives.

Knowing my luck they will start working the day after I give in and decide to pay for Sky!

Sky+HD: To get Sky+HD, you require a Sky TV subscription, a Sky+HD box and you need to subscribe to Sky+HD by taking the HD Mix (£10 extra a month). Only compatible with digital satellite. Do you know the subtitles work on Sky HD?

£27 a mth is £324 a year so cheeper.

I would look at getting the box on eBay and a veiwing card but don't if it would work, a standard one would.

Thanks, that's where I got the quote from and they appear to contradict themselves by saying in line one you need a subscription then in line seven "Luxe TV HD, Channel 4 HD and BBC HD are available without any subscriptions" Maybe designed to confuse.

I could be getting one FOC as I know someone who is moving and getting cable.
