Question... How do you clean your hearing aid and how often do you clean it.
I do mine weekly but I just give it a quick dusting and blow on the microphone.
My moulds/tubing get cleaned every other day without fail (hot soapy water).
The actual aid, as in the bit that goes behind the ear...um, never
I do give it a wipe if I see any grot but this is rare, they just never really get dirty.0 -
Hi,
Helping with someone who is profoundly deaf with their DLA claim.
So did an claim. Rejected.
Appealed. Rejected
Now will have to go to tribunal. Can any other deaf people give some advice about the tribunal? Should we go without a lipspeaker?0 -
Disability living allowance (DLA) I had to look it up.
You use any available system to help the person understand what is going on at the tribunal.
How do you communicate with him /her ?I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.0 -

If the person requires a lipspeaker, why would you not have one there?
What care needs does the deaf person have, and have they been deaf since birth? Most adults with long term deafness live independent lives, are there complications in the case of your friend?0 -
Hello,
Deaf since birth. Speech is not 100% and obviously can't lipread everyone only certain ppl.
"care needs" really needs lipspeaker to attend social events,(did not even mentioned in the appeal) need assistance sometimes with directions (rejected cos can use paper and pen!!!)
So basically simply profoundly deaf relying on lipreading and oral speech.
Very independent but need help here and there.
Any advice?
Was worried a presence of a lipspeaker would make the tribunal think the deaf person is independent0 -
Have you looked at the eligibility criteria for DLA?http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/BenefitsTaxCreditsAndOtherSupport/Disabledpeople/DG_10011816
Is there a local organisation for the deaf and hard of hearing that could help?.....................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

However, I'm not sure it will help. As Errata says, look at the eligibility criteria. Needing help to deal with a disability isn't the same as being entitled to DLA, if that makes sense.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Please don't laugh but I lost one of my hearing aids in a self service till in Tesco........long story lol.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I just wondered if anyone knows if the NHS will replace the hearing aid for free. I usually wear 2 and am really struggling to manage with one. I only had both of them for a month and I'm too embarrassed to contact audiology and explain what happened.
Any advice very much appreciated0 -
If any of you are in the Bristol area, I've been invited to a HearHere day organised by Imperial Hearing on Monday 17th September, 10 am - 3 pm, Westbury on Trym Methodist Church. The link is to an earlier day but that gives you an idea.
I'm keen to go because they say you'll be able to see inside your own ears, and I've been told I've got a cyst in one, I'd quite like to see how big and where ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

I was charged £75 when I lost one. The only way you'll know is to ask.Signature removed for peace of mind0
