I would ask about Phonak Naida.
I saw one of my siblings the other day who has shiny new Phonak aids, bought privately along with a personal loop. I saw the loop first, round their neck, which has the company's name on it.

You know how you read things wrong sometimes? Well, I saw a name beginning with P and ending with k, and read it as 'Primark' - which did seem a little unlikely that a) Primark would sell chunky jewellery with their name on it and b) my sibling would be wearing it ...

Ooh, I don't know what they had before, but they are happy with their new ones (and at that price, you would hope so!)

They have tried NHS but because they are in a position to pay and are willing to pay for the convenience and improved choice and better service from going private, that's what they do. Also they've been able to carry on working, which given that they spend a fair part of their lives in meetings wasn't easy to do pre-decent aids.

Quote: "I used to fall asleep in meetings because I couldn't hear a word which was said, now I can hear I fall asleep because it's so boring!" :rotfl:

Now here's my little question, what do you keep your aids in, especially if you carry them around during the day NOT in your ears?

Only my Siemens box is falling apart, SERIOUSLY falling apart. I've put it inside a little padded purse for the moment, but I'm not sure whether a little tin would be better for when the box has gone completely. One of those little tins you can use for taking pills out in, or would the proximity of batteries and metal tins mean they run down faster? I usually have a spare battery with me, you see.

(And to give you all another laugh, I did see such a little tin in one of the shops near work yesterday. A bit small, I thought, but a very natty way of fastening where you pressed the middle of the lid and the rim, cut into fat 'rays', popped up from over a little lip round the outside of the tin. Then I realised, from the large green leaf symbol on the lid of the tin, what the true purpose of this tin was! :rotfl:)

TBH - I keep my hearers in my ear'oles when I'm awake and on the dressing table when I'm asleep.
Sue - if yours are NHS ones, ask audiology to send you new boxes.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

i hate to think how much they cost! just as well we have nhs though as i could never afford them
i keep mine in until i go to bed then on bedside table.
what about using a small coin purse? do you mean one battery or a spare pack of batteries?
i like the sound of the tin you looked at :rotfl:
think i will enquire about these aids, but to be honest my hospital never seem to have much for profoundly deaf,as they told me last time, that was the strongest they had, kinda upset me as i dont fancy no aids
i came into the world with nothing, and guess what? i still have it!!!:p

Just one or two batteries, although the little purse I've found would probably take a whole pack if I didn't have the actual hearing aid box in.

It made DH laugh too, I wasn't sure what message it would send out but he said "Those who mind don't matter, and those who matter won't mind."

I still think I hear best of anyone in this house, in terms of noise noise - no-one else notices my hearing aid whistle, I'm the one asking "Was that the doorbell or was it the TV?", I get woken up by the dawn chorus and so on.

What I can't hear is one conversation in a crowded room ... And everyone else has been assured their hearing is 'normal'.

lol,dh is right, can you imagine peoples faces as you whip out the box in a crowded place ,then you pullout your hearingaids:rotfl::rotfl:
must admit i was told that once you take battery off the sticky bit they start losing power,so i carry a spare pack, but maybe yours are not on sticky tabs.

my youngest g/daughter who is 2yrs loves it if she can cuddle me and make my ear whistle, totally amazes her lol.
know if they were done properly you would not hear whistling, another thing for 21st.
as a matter of interest is your whole family deaf/hard hearing.i ask because i have been told many moons ago mine is heredity, yet i have two sis 1 bro,who is deaf from measles, two daughters,2g/daughters 1 g/son,yet none of them are bothered by hearing loss, has always puzzled me where the heredity bit comes in
i came into the world with nothing, and guess what? i still have it!!!:p

That's my problem also. I hear noise but not the meaning of what is going on.

My hearing loss is mainly the consonants but I can hear vowels. Very very frustrating. so I liken it to my brain having to do crossword puzzles all day long. Tiring to say the least.

One day they may, just may, devise a hearing aid that really does give decent functional hearing. Not sure if I'll ever see it though
