    whoops.
    thanks for that.

Any idea how to move my post to the other thread?
  • I've pm'd the Board Guide who will shift it for you, hope you find that thread useful.
  • hey thanks for all the advice, Il try switching the T on the phone, but I doubt its set up on there - I got a occupational health apt next monday for a new job, so I sopose I will tell them that I need a phone and a stethescope, my current occ health ppl wernt that helpful, they said "phone if you need anything!" But I guess if im leaving in a month they prob wont do much, I reakon it would take longer to sort it out!

When she explained about the aids she said they automatically cut out the background noise if it recognises your having a face to face conversation, though I havent noticed that setting yet!
    thanks again

it used to be also that if you applied to Access to Work for help within 3 months of starting a new job, then they were much more generous in what they would pay for; they paid all of the costs for my conversor (cost nearly £300 and never worked properly) and other bits; at least my company paid and AtW reimbursed them 100%. If I had been in the job longer than 3 months they would only have paid half or something. Worth bearing in mind for anyone changing jobs, it really encourages a new boss to be helpful! (though mine was anyway) :)

edited to say, I'm not sure if Access to Work still exists???
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

I feel I've scored a minor victory at my local cinema. When they re-furbished it I was astonished that they didn't put any loops in. It's a very small chain, and I asked at the cinema itself and they knew nothing, and I emailed 'Head Office' and never got a reply, BUT they are being taken over by a different chain. Because my offspring have casual jobs there, they got the "You're being TUPEd" letter, so I emailed the new bosses and said "Oy, how about induction loops?" and they emailed right back and said "But of course, it never occurred to us you didn't have them already!" :j

  • i too have really bad hearing, i have an alarm clock with a pad that goes under your pillow that vibrates, it is enough to wake anyone up, you can either buy it or get it from your local disability place, i got mine on a 99 year lease for nothing. wearing your hearing aid in bed will only damage it. hope this helps

My MIL is 86, and wears two hearing aids, and because of a fall has been in hospital for the last six weeks. I don't know very much about them, apart from the fact that she is always saying they don't work properly, fiddles with what I assume is a volume control, and then all we can hear is whistling. Last week she was transferred to a convalescent home for approx another 5 weeks, and it appears that in the process her hearing aids have gone missing. When visiting we had to resort to shouting so she could hear us, and we left with headaches and feeling completely exhausted.

I realise that this is worse for my MIL, as she also has no way to communicate with the staff, who do not necessarily have English as their first language. She is also spending all her time in her room on her own as she cannot hear anything. (Also, apparently the lounge is full of old peope!)

We have contacted the hospital and the ambulance service who transferred her, and no-one has found her hearing aids. I will contact the Audiology Dept at the hospital tomorrow to see if it is possible to obtain a replacement set. Does anyone know whether this will be possible without her having to make a visit? And will they make a charge? As I'm sure you will apreciate the situation is quite urgent.

AS she is always saying they don't work properly we wondered whether we should try going private with someone like Specsavers, or should we try and perservere with the NHS? I think part of the problem is probably that when at an appointment she says everything is fine, but once back at home she finds fault with everything about them!!

I guess at he moment anything would be better than nothing.
