any programmers webdesign people here?

hi i got a website which needs updating
i can change basic text on the webpage but am looking at changing a few buttons, forms etc.
All the information is in folders etc in my webpage admin side.
I have no idea how to change physically any of that.
can someone guide me into how to change things please?

    Have a look through the HTML/XHTML and CSS tutorials on http://www.w3schools.com/. It covers all of the basic stuff and is a really good resource that I, as a software engineer / web developer, and many of my colleagues will refer back to.

    and say i edited some folders with new content how could i transfer that to the website?

    Website design is quite difficult to teach via a forum. There are tow main issues that people struggle with. First theres the actual design on their pc,then theres the whole business of getting it all on the remote server and making it work.

    I'm fortunate in that i have Dreamweaver CS3 which makes it all work oh so easy.

    The right web design software helps an aweful lot. What are you using?

    i didnt use any the website was done for me and wasl ooking at trying to edit myself just dont know how to get it from a-b after

    You should be able to find some freebie editing software if you google and that may assist as long as you know how to ftp it and make it work server side.
