HELP please! Someone's got into my email

Hi please can anyone help me!

Am freaking out a bit right now as just logged into my hotmail account and an email has been sent to all my email contacts and lots with the addresses no longer in use have come back with delivery failure but the emails sent show in the sent outbox. The email contained info about selling electricals. Does this mean someone has got into my account and sent the emails? Can someone see all my emails and read them?

thanks. not sure what to do or if am over reacting and there is some clever way someone can get your contacts without being in my account. im not good with computers so any help would be good. katharine

Of course, They fly past the mail server and any IT admin could peek, also the police for example, only write what you would put on a postcard.

Email hacked not likely unless someone close knows your details.

if the emails are showing in your 'sent items' folder, you do have a problem! change do you use outlook to access hotmail? change your mail password immediately! run antivirus and spyware apps. change the password again.

make sure your password is complex, this means by a bruteforce method it makes it harder for people to get into your account..

my thoughts are, at least 8 characters long. at least 1 that is a capital letter, at least 1 number, and at least 1 special character like an exclamation mark or a percentage sign etc etc...

yes it takes longer for you to type, but, it'll at least be safe...

Thanks for the replies. Yes it seems really worrying as another email has been sent out this morning. But that one hasn't apparently shown in the outbox but the one last night did. I've changed my password question and password. Will run the anti virus thing and spyware. Is there anything else I can do? Think will contact hotmail and explain whats happened. thanks for advice, katharine

I've just realise that the vacation reply was also put on so if anyone emailed me this message about selling electricals would be sent. I've changed it to no vacation reply but it won't let me delete the electrical message. In the electrical message its got email addresses and a website, do you think that is an attempt to get people to go to the website to get their details or something? The message seems permanently stuck there, i can't cut it out or delete. Anything I can do? Have changed my password again. One of the programmes didn't find any threats. AVG anti virus is still going. thanks, katharine
