Alternative To Google

Is there an alternative to Google?

I've always used Yahoo, but over the last few days it's taken a liftime for the page to load just keeps hanging, then "IE page cannot display the webpage"

I have no problem with any other sites loading, just Yahoo

  • Have a look at this - a whole host of them for a variety of searches

  • You mean an alternative search engine?

Well Google should never be slow but search engines are 2 a penny.

Off the top of my head:

    www.yahoo.com
www.live.com - The Microsoft Search Platform
    www.ask.com

The list goes on and on.

Thanks for the replies, sorry, I should have made my post more clear.

I've always used Yahoo as my search engine, but due to the probems for the last few days of it hanging, I want an alternative.

My homepage became hijacked once using Google, which is why I don't use it any more.

    homepage hijacked?

you mean you clicked yes to someone and google set itself to your homepage but you didn't realise what you had clicked so assumed google did naughty things...

*has never had google hijack anything*

It sounds like the issue is with the security on your PC. I'd suggest getting AVG, it's simple and provides enough security to stop you getting these problems. AVG is anti virus and anti spyware, try http://www.avg.co.uk

You can't blame Google for your previous problem, that's to do with your PC and security.

You won't find a better search engine than Google IMO.

Been using Google long before anyone in the mainstream knew anything about it, never one had any issues.

Cuil (https://www.cuil.com) is a new search engine, that sometimes provides great results. Google seems better overall, though.

I tried that one, as some of the staff were ex-google
It was IMHO a waste of time, didn't pick up meaningful sites when searching, and sometimes used the wrong context. Feedback was given back to HQ, but after almost a month I went back to google...
