Hi here is the list of basic accounts.
http://www.moneymadeclear.fsa.gov.uk/pdfs/bank_accounts.pdf
Think there is a bit of discussion about the merits of Electron and Conect etc somewhere on here, I think. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Bit more from the BK site
Barclays Visa debit card without cheque guarantee facilities. It is NOT an electron card and is actually accepted at more places than Electron.
Electron is accepted in Link cash machinesIf you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
sorry RAS this may seem really silly but is there any way you can answer the bottom part? Can I still take out a current account with a debit card/cheque guarantee card or do I need to open an account and just have a solo/electron/connect card? I don't know a lot about any of this? I am really grateful- ThanksTotal debt at start of DMP: £20972.00First Payment: January 2009

I am quoting from the BK forum, you might be able to have a chaque guarnatee card but the big issue for most banks is that you are not allowed to go voerdrawn. With a debit or cash card, you can only spend what is in the bank. With a cheque card you can spend money you do not have and they have to cough up.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

hi...update,
went an opened a new account with barclays today which was pretty painless. They tried to offer me and sell me the fancy accounts but I just picked out the most basic but she said this will come with a visa debit card and a cheque book. I stated aswell that I didn't want any sort of od, to which she commented ("That's ok we're not offering you one anyways") I think this was out of spite because I said I wasn't interested in any other products that they had to offer!
Ok so I'm hoping the above is ok to have whilst on a DMP. I'm just going about removing myself from the joint account and having all wages and other money paid into the new barclays account, so far pretty good I guess but I can't shake the underlying feeling of anxiety about all of this, I guess guilt really and worrying about whats going to happen to me over the next couple of months with regards to hassle from the creditors etc. I know that after months of pondering this was is the best way but I can't help feeling guilty about being so irresponsible with some of my debts etc and not facing up to it a long time ago- I guess hindsight is a wonderful tool, anyways just thought would share my thoughts- I'm blown away with all the great advice and support on here.

really bad day today, all my info arrived from cccs today and am starting to worry about not all creditors accepting and then everything to follow after this. Also I have gone over on one of my cards from them adding interest on and I also have a bank charge for a rejected payment which was egg's fault but they are still charging me and now I will have the bank charge too! Egg have taken the money but the bank haven't yet?!
Do I just take all my money out of my accounts and cancel all dd's and get the letters sent? I just worry not paying the charges and paying the extra that I have been asked for by Mint is only going to get me into more trouble so any advice I would be grateful!
Also relating to the above I have a credit card with Barclaycard but I took out a new basic bank account with Barclays yesterday that I was told comes with a visa debit and a cheque book. I didn't mention the DMP at the time as was waiting for the ok and paperwork from them, so now that I am going to go ahead with it do Barclays have the right to close this account? Am really worried as didn't think I had to mention the DMP I just asked for a basic account?!
Just quickly to ask also by removig my name from the joint account is my partner safe as this is the only joint finance we have together. I think his credit rating is good/ok so I wouldn't want to jepordise him with my dmp too much.
Once again thank you everyone who has helped me so far, I am truly grateful for this. DDTotal debt at start of DMP: £20972.00First Payment: January 2009

Quoting RAS above your partner should be okay if your name gets taken off joint account. Perhaps you could pm RAS or CCCS_Sarah with your specific questions?Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030
