for the dartford crossing u have to be exempt from road tax (ie in receipt of high rate mobility) , they come out and check the tax disc, they gave me a form today tho for a card that i can use in future.
I got one of these last week, you can download the form from the web and send it with a copy of your registration document showing the exempt status, - Best of all there is no charge:money:
It may take a few weeks at the moment as they are processing local residents discounts at the moment

If you have a blue badge you can have exemption from the London Congestion Charge, you need to register with them and can nominate two vehicles, so no need then to worry about paying the charge when in the zone.0

am not 100% positive but i am sure i have read on another disability website that as far as the congestion charge in london goes if you are in your motability car (or a car with tax exempt) as it is tax exempt you do not need to do anything, no payment and no need to register.0

From the TFL guide
Certain categories of vehicles, including disabled passenger
carrying vehicles and vehicles used by disabled persons that are
exempt from Vehicle Excise Duty (road tax), are automatically
exempt from Congestion Charging and do not need to be registered
with TfL. This automatic exemption only applies when the Driver
and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has confirmed to you that
they have recorded the vehicle as being exempt from road tax.Life is not all about money - we just believe so :hello:0 -
You definitely do need to register. Details are on the Transport for London website.0

You need to register if you are using the blue badge exemption,
you do not need to register if your car is exempt from road tax - ie the road tax is free and it shows the class as "Disabled" - It is the class they check when they register your number plate,
Confusing I know,
You can also change vehicles that are registered with the blue badge so if you travel with someone else you can get exemption for their car.
I know this all sounds complicated but the web site is very clear so do work at it and save the £8 (or £25?)
Rules
Certain types of vehicles are automatically exempt and do not need to be registered with us:- Two wheeled motorbikes (and sidecars), mopeds and bicycles
- Black cabs licensed with the Public Carriage Office (PCO)
- Mini cabs licensed with the PCO
- Emergency Service vehicles - e.g. ambulances / fire engines
- NHS vehicles that are exempt from road tax
- Vehicles used by the disabled that are exempt from vehicle excise duty (road tax) under the 'disabled' class
- Vehicles for more than one disabled person (e.g. Dial-A-Ride) exempt from road tax
- Public transport vehicles with nine or more seats that are listed within the taxation classes Buses or Reduced Pollution Buses

The Severn Bridge crossing will allow any vehicle that has a dissabled person with their blue badge to go over for free. I was told this by a bridge toll worker a few weeks back, it evenn incldes a coach. It does work as a friend was on a coach trip the other month and the coach came over free of charge!0

Why do disabled get concessions on tolls and bridges at all? My mind has gone blank and I cant think of any reasons
Hi Tinker,
I get concessions also. They truly are a godsend to me. I live in Cornwall so have to cross the Tamar Bridge or Torpoint Ferry on a regular basis.
I get 100 free passes a year I believe.
I'm 28yrs old and have had these concessions since I was 15yrs old!
My nearest hospital is in Plymouth which means frequent trips over the bridge/ferry, for scans, xrays, general appointments, physiotherapy, hydrotherapy etc etc
Not only that but because of the rarity of my disability I have to travel to Bristol 20 times a year (sometimes more depending on whether or not I have had recent surgery). I am seen at the BRI, Frenchay, Southmead and Avon and Somerset Orthopaedic Centre..... again, each visit constitutes crossing the Bridge/Ferry.
I have a Blue badge and I am also exempt from road tax. (Personally, I cannot drive, the car is mine but my partner claims/drives for me).
I also get part of my travel expenses paid due to being on benefits because of my disability.
My 7yr old daughter also has the same hip condition as I do
I would not be in the position to get to any of our much needed appointments if it wasn't for the financial help of these concessions etc.
If i had my way I wouldn't use them as I hate travelling due to the pain and discomfort. I'd much rather be sat at home on MSE:rotfl:
I hope this clears up some of the uncertainties which you may have over disabled people having concessions. If there may be anything else you would like to know then feel free to drop me a PM

if you are indeed tax exempt then the new dartford crossing system will mean you do not have to stop at all once registered as they are going to have ANPR (automatic number plate recongision) cameras which will read number plates so if you are registered the barrier will lift0
